Weezer – The Red Album

July 29, 2008 by Zack

WARNING: This is a long review. It’s a comprehensive look at Weezer culminating in a review for the Red album. Bear with it, I beg of you! On a cool October night in 1994, I walked down the streets of my suburban domicile in Illinois, to the only “record” store that was close enough to walk to. I didn’t have driving privileges  yet, and I didn’t feel like bringing my parents into my urge to buy an album from a new band that called themselves Weezer. Their newest hit,... Keep Reading...

Jesus Camp

If there was ever a person that could use a trip down to the amazon river or outback, or Antartica, with little to no provisions, and videotape her demise…it would be Becky Fischer. She’s the focal point of this disturbing and dark documentary about that Little America that people either ignore or don’t take very seriously. And that would be the evangelical movement. Children whose ages range from around 5 or 6 to 11 or 12 gather every summer for “Kids on Fire”, a Bible... Keep Reading...

The X-Files: I Want to Believe

July 28, 2008 by Zack

Squeezed in the middle of a summer full of superheroes (with superhype!), 20th Century Fox decided to try and put a hammock up before all the summer comedies come out (”Pineapple Express”, “The Rocker”, and “Tropic Thunder” are all on deck), and lazily threw in a movie that will certainly have Xphiles lined up…but what about the rest of the moviegoing public? Unfortunately, I think they’ll be less than impressed, because this movie may put you to sleep. I am an admitted “X-Files”... Keep Reading...

Punch Out Music Video/Short Film

July 28, 2008 by Zack

This was a short film project my friends and I at Error Productions have done. It’s our first effort on a shoestring budget, if the shoestrings were made from Ramen noodles. This is from YouTube, so the quality isn’t the best, but I hope you enjoy! Error Productions is on a continued effort to bring you the best in NES based entertainment. “The Plight of the Fighter”  [Read more...]

License to Drive – 20 Years Later

July 28, 2008 by Zack

Dean teaches Les about the finer things. I still remember the hot summer day back in July of 1988, my twin sister and I were 9 years old, and our mom took us to see a movie called “Mac and Me”, a cheap rip-off of the ever successful “E.T.”, that I don’t recall either my sister and I ever asking to be taken to. At the time, of course, we had already seen “The Lost Boys” on VHS, and my sister was heavily instituted into the Corey Haim Crush. I just thought... Keep Reading...

Hancock

July 24, 2008 by admin

Continuing the summer’s tradition of superhero movies, this one features something a little different. First, one of my favorite actors of this age, Will Smith–a blockbuster king, a likable guy, and his range, though sorely underused most of the time, is not to be disregarded. In this case, however, he does not exactly play a “likable guy”. So let’s talk “Hancock”. This film is not adapted from a graphic novel. It is not based on an old comic book series created by Stan Lee. It’s... Keep Reading...

Dark Knight

July 22, 2008 by admin

The last few summers have been laced with superhero movies. We’ve been inundated with your Spidermans, your Supermans, your Iron Mans, and your Hulks…and get ready for the train to keep rolling–”Watchman” (a DIFFERENT kind of superhero story) is coming out next March. But it seems as though all of those films were leading up to this, the most anticipated superhero flick possibly in the history of film mainly because of one tragic fact: one of the cast members ultimately died from the intensity... Keep Reading...

REM – Accelerate

July 15, 2008 by admin

I haven’t bought an REM album since “Reveal”, and I only listened to it once before being very tempted to throw it out the window of my car. I was so disappointed after a pretty good effort with the “The Man on the Moon” soundtrack, and not only was the album pretty boring except for a few tracks–Stipe just seemed to lose it with the lyrical edge. REM was one of my favorite bands growing up. I not only enjoyed the music, but the lyrics were so abstract and thought... Keep Reading...

The Incredible Hulk

July 15, 2008 by admin

A few years ago, they tried this experiment. Ang Lee was to direct “Hulk” starring Eric Bana (also known as the half-Ryan Theriot, half-Vinny Del Negro clone) as Bruce Banner, one of the biggest conundrums in super hero history. His super ego, the Hulk, was both a hero…and a villain. He wasn’t a bad villain but he caused destruction and had no control over what he did. It was your Jekyll & Hyde for a new age. But let’s go even before that, to when Stan Lee first... Keep Reading...
